Terry Smith Obituary

KEWANEE - Terry L. Smith, 67, of Kewanee, formerly of Neponset, passed away at 1:30 a.m., Sunday, September 25, 2022, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Cremation rites have been accorded and in honor of Terry’s wishes, there will be no visitation service. Memorials may be directed to the Neponset Park Improvement Fund, PO Box 309, Neponset, IL 61345.

Terry was born February 11, 1955, in Kewanee, the son of Roger Smith and Patricia (Norton) Henson. He was preceded in death by his father in 1989. Terry is survived by his mother, of Neponset, and her husband Sam Henson, two brothers, Jon (Brenda Newman) Smith of Kewanee and David Smith of Norfolk, VA, two sisters, Lauri (Dave) Mueller and Lisa Smith, both of Neponset, as well as three nephews, Christopher (Nicole) Smith of Galva, Eric Smith of Rock Island, David (Lindsey) Mueller of Geneseo, and one niece, Mandy (Chris) Donovan of Neponset. He is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Terry graduated from Neponset High School in 1973, then served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a medical clerk. After his stint in the military, Terry lived in LaSalle, IL, where he worked at Sundstrand Corporation. When that facility closed in 1988, he returned to Neponset and provided day care for his niece Mandy and nephew David for a brief time. He worked for Martin Engineering in Neponset as a Urethane Molder for 29 years, retiring in 2018. Terry enjoyed life and never met a stranger. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He also liked to do crossword puzzles, listen to music, and watch old TV shows. He had a wealth of knowledge, which always kept the conversation interesting. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
