Kewanee – Theodore R. “Ted” Borg, 93, of Kewanee, died at 11:44 a.m., May 13, 2021 at his home.
Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 4 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee with Rev. Mara Ahles-Iverson officiating. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church and the Kewanee Public Library. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born October 5, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Axel and Tacie (Bennett) Borg. His mother died when he was 8 years and he went to live with Emma Bennett “Aunt Em” whom raised him. He married Carolyn R. Roser on February 27, 1955 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2021. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Dorothy Roser of Kewanee, brother, Elwyn Borg of Chicago, two nieces and nephews and several great nieces. He was also preceded in death by his parents, “Aunt Em” and his siblings, Eugene and Evelyn.
Ted served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He lived and farmed on the same farm for over 65 years. While farming he also worked as a welder for a local firm. He volunteered for OSF Saint Luke Medical Center and the former Kewanee Hospital.
He enjoyed woodworking and created designer bowls and animals. He was also a licensed pilot, owning his own plane as well as even building an airplane on his farm. He always looked forward to annual fishing and hunting trips with his friends. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling in the United States, Canada and abroad with his wife. He was also well known for his amazing crop of tomatoes.
