GALVA – Thomas Larry “T.L.” Kurtz, 68, of Galva, formerly of Toulon, died at 12:36 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at his home.
He was born November 4, 1956 in Kewanee, the son of John David “J.D.” and Myra (Davis) Kurtz. Survivors include his children, John David “J.D.” Kurtz and Chasity Kurtz, a sister, Tori Merson, a stepdaughter, Chris Deal and his cousins who lived with him and cared for him, Donald Pierce and Ronald Pierce. He was preceded in death by his parents.
T.L. also shared other meaningful bonds with others who loved him deeply and whom he loved in return — among them are two individuals, a woman who called him son and secondly, a special someone whose dancing, care, love, and companionship held a special place in his life and heart.
T.L. had a smile that could light up any room and a sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to so many. Whether it was a perfectly timed joke, a thoughtful gift, or one of his pranks, T.L. had a gift for making people laugh and feel loved.
A graduate of Galva High School, T.L. later became the Maintenance Manager and retired from Yarco, where he was known for developing innovative systems and solutions that improved operations and kept things running smoothly while he also brightened the days of those he worked with.
In his free time, you could find him restoring cars and trucks, tearing up the country dancing, going to the casino, following every twist and turn of NASCAR season, playing video games, and—perhaps most notably—racing in online NASCAR leagues. He wasn’t just a fan...he was a competitor, winning numerous virtual championships and earning the respect of fellow racers. His Crew Chief and close-knit online racing community miss him dearly.
T.L.’s heart, infectious humor, and joyful spirit touched many lives. He will be remembered with deep affection—and missed beyond measure.
Private graveside services and interment were held at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
