Thomas & Maryann Vershaw

Thomas VerShaw died of heart failure on June 2, 2022 in Edina, MN at the age of 92. Born in Kewanee on January 9, 1930, he was a graduate of Kewanee High school. He served in the Central Intelligence Corp during the Korean War. He was stationed in Sendai Japan for the bulk of his service. He married Maryann Bartman in 1956. For the bulk of his life in Kewanee he worked at Burlington Chicago Cartage, eventually becoming General Manager of the truck line. Once the company was sold in 1975, he and Maryann moved to the Chicago area, where he lived for many years. Eventually they moved to Florida, living in Wellington, then Fort Myers. In March of 2022 he moved to the Minneapolis area to be closer to his son. He loved, motorsports, Norte Dame football, and fishing.  He was also quick to go to the next new and/or interesting restaurant. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2019. 

Maryann VerShaw died December 19, 2019.  She was born in Mineral, IL and was a graduate of Mineral High School. She married Thomas VerShaw in June of 1956. She worked at worked at St. Francis Hospital for many years. In 1975 she and Thomas moved to the Chicago area where she worked at Four Lakes Village. She became manager of the 1,600-unit apartment community along with the ski hill, pub and racquet club. She and Thomas moved to Florida where she continued to do consulting work in the property management field until her retirement. She led an active life, enjoyed her friends, family and traveling.  

They’re survived by their son Marty and grandson Alex. 

A memorial service honoring both will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Fr. John Cramer officiating.
