KEWANEE – Vernon “VJ” J. Vancil, 75, of Kewanee, died at 6:39 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Toulon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 15 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with military rites accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Following the services cremation will be accorded and private inurnment will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee VFW Post #8078.
He was born December 6, 1947 in Black Hills County, SD, the son of Vernon Vaughn Vancil and Lola (Blodgett) Dziengel. He had been married to Cindy Barker. Survivors include his three children; Mark (Lori) Vancil, Tammy Vancil and Rusty Vancil, his grandchildren; Hunter and Hayden Vancil, Kaley DeBlieck, Colton and Jesse Jones, Samantha Verstraete, Nathan Vancil, Halie Butts and Brooke Vancil, a great grandchild on the way and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister and his son, Gary Lee Vancil
VJ served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a machinist. He loved fishing and was a member of and enjoyed hanging out at the Kewanee VFW Post #8078.
