Virginia Marie Lang Obituary

Virginia Marie Lang (Hansen), age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at

Arcadia Care of Kewanee. Virginia was born on February 25, 1930, in Moline, Illinois to parents Emma F. (Smith) and Andrew W. Hansen. Virginia lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and community.

Virginia was the wife of the late Richard (Dick) Lang. Together, they built a life filled with hard work and shared dreams. On their homestead, they planted strawberries and sold them to help pay for their land—an endeavor that blossomed into cherished gatherings where homemade ice cream was served to friends and neighbors. Virginia found great joy in these moments of hospitality and connection.

She worked as a secretary for her husband’s business, he was known as “Dick Lang the Aluminum Man,” where her dedication went beyond the office—she even went door to door to help grow the home improvement business. For a time, she also ran a craft and thrift store in the same building, combining her entrepreneurial spirit with her love for creativity.

Crafting was one of Virginia’s greatest passions. She delighted in needlepoint and knitting, specially creating blankets for new members of the family – a tradition that wrapped each recipient in warmth and love. Her hands were rarely still, always busy with a new project or lovingly preparing gifts for others. Another favorite pastime was playing BINGO; she often attended games up to three times a week with enthusiasm and joy.

Virginia’s Christian faith was central to her life. She devoted herself to praising God for all she had been given and lived each day with gratitude and grace. Her family meant everything to her, and she poured her heart into nurturing those bonds across generations.

She is survived by her siblings; Thomas Hansen of Princeton; Kay Walker of Kewanee; and Geraldine Slaughter of Goodman, Missouri. She leaves behind her children: Linda and Roy Grant of Wyoming; Eugene Lang and Janice Tossell of Kewanee; Bruce and Ruth Lang of Galva; daughter-in-law: Catherine Lang of Pacolet, South Carolina, eleven grandchildren; Angela, Laura, Cheryl, Julie, Jennifer, Jeremy, Jessica, Jackie, Jacob, Stephanie, and Brandi, twenty-four great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her very special love, Charles Harms—all of whom will miss her dearly but give thanks for every day shared with her.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick Lang; sisters Alfreda Petty and Dorothy Hansen; brother James Hansen; son Michael Lang, and grandson Michael Lang, Jr.

Per Virginia's wishes, there will be no services. Family will gather at a later date to lay her to rest with her husband, Dick. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia's legacy is one of devotion—to God, to family, and to the simple joys that made life rich. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
