Obituary
KEWANEE- William P. Merritt, 83, of Kewanee, died at 3:37 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2023, at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee with Pastor David Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00-12:45 p.m. at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee prior to the graveside. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kewanee.
He was born May 18, 1939, in Macomb the son of Perry and Dorothy (Mercer) Merritt. Survivors include his son Bill, daughter Laura, and his sister Janean, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Mark.
William attended school in Mt. Sterling. He then went on to become a self-employed business owner and master mechanic having owned and operated Merritt’s Autobody for over fifty years. William took great pride in everything he did. He loved his family and successfully raised five generations.
