ROCK ISLAND – Yolanda Strong “Yo-Yo”, 24, of Rock Island, died Friday, July 26, 2024 at her home.
She was born November 10, 1999 in Kenosha, WI to the union of Tony and Arnilour Strong. At an early age she moved with her grandmother to Kewanee and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 9. While in Kewanee she attended the Second Baptist Church where she was baptized, sang in the choir and was an usher and graduated from Central Jr. High School with high honors. From there she moved to Geneseo and attended Geneseo High School and the First Methodist Church. She later relocated to Rock Island where she attended the Grace City Church and graduated from Rock Island High School with high honors.
Yo-Yo was a fireball with high-energy and a bossy attitude. She was a little woman who carried a big stick. She enjoyed fishing, crafts, singing karaoke, writing and reading books. But most of all she cherished her family and friends and in her latter days wanted to bring her family together. She loved God and enjoyed praising his name, reading her bible and going to church.
Survivors include her son, Ezekiel Lee and his foster parents Erica and Grant, her parents, Tony and Arnilour, sister, Sabrina Strong, her grandmother and step-grandfather, Thelma and William Shaw, two nieces, Armani and Skylar Jones and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Judge McCloud and great grandfather, Thurman Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Pastor Dwight Ford officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to her family.
