John H. Bennett

NEPONSET - John H. Bennett, 74, of Neponset, died at 4:40 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Neponset American Legion. Marshall Jones will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services and private inurnment will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset. Memorials may be directed to the National MS Society or to the family for a memorial to be established.

He was born September 1, 1941 in Kewanee, the son of Howard Samuel and M. Jane Stetson. He married Dianne E. Kramer on September 21, 1969 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2016. Survivors include two sons, Scott Bennett of Neponset and Rodney (Jamie) Bennett of Mackinaw, IL, two grandchildren, Justin Bennett and Heaven Bennett, a brother, Bob (Connie) Bennett of Neponset and a sister, Sue Norton of Neponset. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lee Bennett, a sister, Ann Jacobs and his son, Sam Bennett.

John served his country in the Army National Guard in Kewanee for 8 years obtaining the rank of Staff Sargent. He farmed in the Neponset area for many years. He also had been a volunteer fireman in Neponset for many years. He was a member of the Neponset American Legion and the 40&8 in Annawan.
