Helen R. Nicholson

KEWANEE - Helen R. Nicholson, 95, of Kewanee, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Kewanee Care Home.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, September 3 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Joe Schmidt, minister of the First Christian Church will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church or to the Senior Center in Kewanee.

She was born November 10, 1919 in Kewanee, the daughter of William D. and Eva (Howell) Rowe. She married Dr. Chester W. Nicholson on July 25, 1942 in Swickley, PA where he was stationed with the Coast Guard. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Nicholson) Phelps of Kewanee, three grandchildren, Denise (Chris) MacPherson of Cleveland, OH, Mark Phelps of Parma, OH and Melissa Phelps of Galatia, IL, four great grandchildren, Ben, Andy, Katie and Sarah and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother, Clarence Rowe.

Helen graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1937. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She had worked at Boss Manufacturing, General Electric and Kraft Foods. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and walking. She logged in over 2000 miles at Wal-Mart’s Fitness Trail to Wellness. She enjoyed spending time having coffee with her friends at Burger King. Above all else, she loved being with her family during holidays and special occasions.
