Message from Bert & Melissa McNaught & Family
June 24, 2016 10:12 PM

Once after reminding listeners that they should love their neighbors, Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbor?” He then told the familiar story of the Good Samaritan where a man who needed help was ignored by all who passed by, except one.

Growing up on East Division Street brought many memories for the many McNaught boys and family. There were many crazy, unpredictable days never knowing what would come from the little orange brick house. One thing was a constant: a caring eye looking out the small kitchen window across the street. If there ever was an incident or cause for concern, the caring eye turned into caring action…a quick phone call, running to the rescue, or just a calm casual conversation at just the right moment that always ended with an encouraging word. There is something to be said for living next door to a woman who prays with her whole heart. I am sure many situations of potential chaos were avoided due to the care of our lone neighborhood watch committee person. And without a doubt, that corner of the universe was one that needed the wonderful touch of our Mrs. Crossan.

After the telling of the story, Jesus asked, “Who do you think was a neighbor to the one who needed help?” The reply was, “The one who had mercy on him.” In my Bible, I have sketched a picture of Leona Crossan.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Lee. May her spirit that inhabited the Holy Spirit live on in us.

Lee was like a second grandma when I was younger and she lived right next door. Then we reconnected years later when she came to live at Courtyard Estates. I will continue to carry the angel for my pocket she gave me. Miss you Leona!
