Chester E. "Chet" Elgin Jr.

KEWANEE – Chester E. “Chet” Elgin Jr., 80, of Kewanee, died at 11:15 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Toulon Health Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 6 at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish or to Visitation School.

He was born May 3, 1937 in Kewanee, the son of Chester E. and Helen (Grudzinski) Elgin Sr. He married Janet A. Sherbeyn on September 10, 1960 in Galva. She survives of Kewanee, as do two sons, Marty (Laura) Elgin of Burlington, WI and Jack Elgin and his special friend, Janelle of San Diego, CA, three grandchildren, Alexis, Amanda and Nathaniel and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald and a sister, Joan Graf.

Chet graduated from Kewanee High School in 1955. He worked as clerk for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
