Derrick E. Glisan

GENESEO - Derrick E. Glisan, 40, of Geneseo, formerly of Galva, was pronounced dead at 11:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at the scene of a single vehicle accident that occurred on the Galva-Atkinson blacktop.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery where Military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be made to the Derrick Glisan Memorial Fund to be used for an educational fund for his children.

He was born on July 3, 1977 in Galesburg, the son of Wayne and Cheryl (Olander) Glisan. He married Tabatha J. Cherry on October 1, 2016 in Galena, IL. She survives of Geneseo, as do his children, Alexandria and Arika Glisan, Tatum and Tatiana Eiselstein and Daxton Glisan, all of Geneseo, his parents, Wayne and Cheryl Glisan of Galva, three sisters, Brenda (Jeff) Weber of Pennsylvania, Darci (Michael) Gustafson of Cameron, IL and Billi (Duane) Clevenger of Galva and several nieces and nephews.

Derrick graduated from Galva High School in 1995 and had served his country in the National Guard. He worked as a lockmaster at the Lock & Dam at the Rock Island Arsenal. He was an outstanding athlete at Galva High School and had been entered into it’s Wall of Fame for Football. He also wrestled and was set to be inducted into the Wall of Fame in a ceremony on January 12th. He was a member of the Galva American Legion, had been a volunteer with the Galva Fire Department and had served as an alderman for the City of Galva for 8 years. He enjoyed camping and playing poker but was especially proud of his wife, children and family.
