WILLIAMSFIELD – Nell W. Grohs, 90, a resident of Seminary Manor in Galesburg, formerly of Williamsfield, died at 2:05 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 31 at the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Jennifer Seder will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Happy Hours Drop-In of Williamsfield, Williamsfield Library, or to the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.
She was born February 4, 1927 in Leitchfield, KY, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Ruby (Sands) White. She married James Waverly Grohs Sr. on November 13, 1945 in Peoria and he preceded her death on May 27, 2006. Survivors include a son, James W. “Jim” (Deborah) Grohs of Galesburg, two daughters, Jan (Rex) Gibbs of Gilson and Carolyn (Eldon) Buck of Williamsfield, four sisters, Mary Margaret Gustafson of Peoria, Louise Siegel of Yates City, Shirley Kellstadt of Brimfield and Barbara Sandall of Peoria, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Emma Summerson and Betty Pierski and a brother, James E. White.
Nell graduated from Brimfield High School in 1945. She worked for CILCO in Williamsfield and later in Princeville. She had also worked for Ladd’s Mart. She attended the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for Happy Hours Drop-In of Williamsfield for 30 years. She enjoyed making greeting cards for family and friends.
