KEWANEE - William H. Gordon Jr., 73, of Kewanee, died at 11:14 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA after a short battle with cancer.

Cremation has been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 21 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Fr. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 4, 1943 in Avon, IL, the son of William H. and Inez Louise (Johnson) Gordon Sr. He married Rebecca Ann Solich on September 30, 1996 in Cambridge. She survives of Kewanee, as do three children, Tami Lynn Gordon of Colona, Charles Allen Gordon of Texas and Kristen Elaine Fuller of Kewanee, a grandson, Dustin Ray (Julie Marie Lund) Hipkins of Burlington, IA and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George Michael Gordon and his faithful friend, Hoover on June 1, 2016.

William graduated from Galva High School. Upon high school his first love was farming, which he did until he went into the military. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from June of 1961 until June of 1965 being stationed at Lackland Air Force Base and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He first worked as a computer technician focusing on main frame computers and then later was the Computer Services Manager for Unisys Corp until his retirement in April of 2004. He was also an Emergency Service & Disaster Agency Volunteer Storm Spotter with the City of Kewanee. He had also been a enumerator for the 2010 census. William enjoyed building desktop computers and computer repair. He also was a ham radio operator and enjoyed wood carving, electronics, gardening and his perennial flowers.
